Sanjay Sami
Have you considered a basic speedometer app available in the appstores? I'm sure most of us have a smartphone with GPS nowadays. You wouldn't have to worry if it's not calibrated perfectly so much, since the inaccuracy would be consistent for each take, anyway. It would be by no means perfect, but a free solution! Try it .... do a test with a handycam on a skateboard dolly. By the time your GPS locks into the fact that you've started to move, your shot will be half done. And it will not be consistent. And at the start for the first few seconds of your move, when it says speed zero, how do you match that from take to take ? And what do you do to compensate the MASSIVE latency in feedback on a GPS unit ? You accelerate ... then 4 seconds later you find that you were too slow ... then you slow down till you stop, and it still shows you doing 3 km/h. Please do a test and get back to us with your results
JD Hartman
The more you rely on new "gee whiz" technology, the more likely it's going to let you down. Now an Iphone can do everything needed to produce a feature film. Wonder how they ever managed to produce an award winning film a hundred years ago? More and more the posts on this sub-forum (Lighting too), remind me of the crap posted on DV dot com.
