Tripod Mount Hole Size

Sorry to ask a dumb question...

 

I believe my Eclair ACL has a 3/8 tripod mount hole. Is that true?

 

If so, I have a 1/4 tripod right now. Anyone have experience with these 1/4 adapters? (You screw them into the 3/8 hole to give you a 3/8 hole.)

Yes, these adapters do work very well ....with much lighter 'stills' cameras - but don't know if I'd trust one with a much heavier 16mm Eclair.

 

If you must buy one, go for the ( more expensive ) Arca-Swiss adapter. This is probably made of better quality hardened steel ( as you'd expect from Arca-Swiss ), though personally I'd ask them first !

 

I have had one of the cheaper ones break on me, due to ( my excessive ) force. :o

 

One other important thing, check the Eclair's base will safely take the 8mm depth required without causing internal damage.

I have this tripod and only the head and plate that came with it.

I'm not sure I'd trust one of these with anything heavier than a K3 (mine has one).

You may be able to get a plate with a 3/8 fitting made up for not too much money.

Screws on some tripod heads are interchangeable between 1/4-20 and 3/8-16.
