HDV for greencreen?

Hi,

How's the compression on the color channels in HDV?

Is it good for greenscreen or bluescreen?

And I heard the Sony HDR can't do 24P, why did they left that out?

Are they working on it for future updates ?

is there a new HDV camera coming out that can do 24P?

An HDV version of the panasonic dvx100 would be great !!! :) I'd buy that

I've heard that the compression of HDV a post house nightmare.

Apparently JVC's got something coming out during NAB that's pretty awesome, there's a quite a few posts about it, I'm sure you can find them.

Does anyone have any hi res samples of blue/green screen mattes done with HDV? I guess I'm curious how well it turns out myself.

Panasonic is coming out with the HVX200 which will be shown at NAB this year. From what I understand, it will be able to capture at 1080p onto a P2 card, and record SD onto a DVCPRO tape, so that should answer your question about the HD version of the DVX100 :)

  • 2 weeks later...

A couple of new things re HDV post at nab.

1. an upconversion box fm HDV to Hd Cam fm Miranda about 3K list.

2. Wavelets baby!!! Premiere has started using the software of Aspect HD by cineform this real time converts the Mpeg to wavelets output in anything fm HDV to wmedia9 or cine ready digital intermediate files soon. This is appearantly lossless. not just visually lossless but the real deal. The examples were really good looking.

and computer overhead is reduced so more realtime performance. and no card needed in the edit system.

MPEG compression = MESS for chromakeying. While I haven't done (or seen) any side by side comparisions, I'd lean towards staying away from HDV for chroma work.

The Panasonic HVX-200 is coming out in August. 24p, 1080, records DVCPRO HD onto a P2 card, or DVCPRO 50 at SD.
