Francois Lanciault
Hi, Just a simple question, does a 400ft load fits in the Arri-16S external magazine if the take-up reel is a 3 inches core? Or do I absolutly need a 2 inches core ? Thank you! François
Zac Fettig
I know it's not helpful, but I have no idea! The manual says T-type core only. It looks like there's enough room inside the mag, so it might work. The footage counter won't read right though. And the torque motor will have to work a little harder. I'd test one with a dummy load, but I don't have any 3" cores. If it helps, 2" cores are fairly cheap. In the $2 to $3 range.
Premium Member Tim Carroll Posted December 12, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted December 12, 2013 François, It might work but it wouldn't be a good idea. It will put quite a bit of extra load on the torque motor (and remember, those things are anywhere from 30 to 60 years old) and you may bind the film in the magazine. I would recommend not doing that and waiting until you can acquire a 2" core. Wherever you are having your film developed, they will have spare cores, call them and ask them, they will probably give you some for free (that's what they used to do "back in the day"). Best, -Tim
Francois Lanciault
Thanks to both of you! I really don't want to burn my troque motor, only have one. I will find an 2inches core and finally try that magazine! François
