Anthony Schilling
Well aside from the Movie Stuff and Tobin units which untill recently required some skill and are mostly only known of within a nitche... this appears to be the first mainstream offering of any kind of S8 digitizer. Because untill recently, there hasn't been a simple desk top device with built in optics that can do the job. Now that the technology is available and we have 3 easy to use and affordable units out there... maybe the demand will pick up and we'll see more "prosumer" scanners on the market? I mentioned Black Magic but who knows, maybe we're not too far off from a prosumer film scanner available from someone like Sony?
Joerg Polzfusz
someone like Sony? ...especially as Sony only would have to start producing their 1979's telecine-projector with a better camera: http://super8wiki.com/index.php/Sony_BM_2100_Projector :D
Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted January 21, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted January 21, 2014 maybe we're not too far off from a prosumer film scanner available from someone like Sony? I think they would have a hard time justifying a movie film scanner (or any film scanner) to their board at this point. It takes the smaller companies like the ones currently doing it that service the market just fine. Hopefully these units will continue to improve. Friedemann Wachsmuth
A german, horrible translation of the Reflecta's manual can be found here Bottom line: Not too convincing. They mark in red that the device is not suitable for commercial use, they only offer "1 year of warranty or xxxxxxx scans" (No, they did not replace these X-es with an actual number). Also, there seems to be like no manual control over the results -- except a boring brightness slider, crop and a "auto contrast" checkbox. Embarassing, eh?
