Noam Suissa
HI everybody! I'm in talks with a yoga/fitness studio to shoot an exercise video for them. I've never worked on this particular facet of the film and television industry, but I reckon it could be a good experience. My first thought was to run three cameras, one on a tripod for wide "establishing" shots, one on the side on a Dolly/slider, and to fly one around on a Steadicam, and just let the instructors do their thing. Is this how exercise videos are done? Or do they use a single camera setup? Also, any recommendations on which camera to use would be appreciated! Zac Fettig
I would think it would normally be done multi-camera. One full shot of the instructor, head on and locked down. One off to the side, high and covering the workout area. And one or more handheld, covering the backup performers. Camera choice really depends on how fancy they want it to be, budget, what the rental house has, etc. It would be helpful if the cameras are all the same (so they can be cut together).
