jon beanlands
I'm looking for info on how to create this effect. Any thoughts?
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 22, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted January 22, 2014 It's done by throwing the shutter and pull down out of phase of each other on a film camera so that the shutter is still open as the film begins to advance to the next frame. jon beanlands
Thanks Adrian. I've seen footage from a Bolex with the shutter removed create something similar and want to try and recreate this. Do know of any resources for how to do this? Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 22, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted January 22, 2014 It's been awhile; but most electronically shutter controlled film cameras should have a box which can do this. I am pretty certain the 435 can do it as can the LT and ST cameras from Arri. I'm not so sure about Panavision as I never use them. I also had it happen once on a konvas 2M; but it wasn't repeatable. On a purely mechanical camera, you'd need some form of modification-- either to the shutter or the pull down timing.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted January 22, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted January 22, 2014 It's fairly easy to simulate in post, too.
