Tom Little
Due to an error that was made, I underexposed all of my student short film I shot using Vision3 500T by 2 stops. I plan on getting a telecine of the film. My question is will there still be enough detail even with the underexposure? Should I push in processing by 2 stops? Or do I do normal processing and this is something that can be worked with in the telecine?
Steve Zimmerman
The safe route would be to push one stop. Also try asking your professor what they think you should do.
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted March 24, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted March 24, 2014 I recently did this on purpose, and pushed 2 stops, which of course increased grain. Were I you I'd push 1 stop at the lab and then you'll still have plenty of information on the neg, so long as you lit it anywhere near "well" enough in the first place. Film is surprising, and honestly 1 or two stops off isn't that much on a V3 stock.
Gregg MacPherson
Do you have any stills taken during the shoot that show the look you're after. It may help the cinematographers answer your question.
Tom Little
Thank you everyone for the input. I will go through the stills I have now and post them ASAP. Thanks again
Tom Little
This is a rough idea of what I wanted the shot to look like. I included the DSLR settings with the picture I took, but the settings I shot with the Arriflex SR1 were 1/48 f/8 500 ASA. Do you think I could get away with pushing only 1 stop to achieve this?Photo: imgur.com/e72LJQH.jpg
David Cunningham
I'd push one and do the rest in post/grade.
