Jordan Watson
Hey guys, I am wanting to purchase the Kessler Pocket Jib for my 5D Mark III. I am ordering a Sachtler ace accessories (matte box, follow focus and base plate) for my Sachtler Ace M tripod. Now, the crane only lets 100mm heads into the bowl, but the Sachtler head of mine is only 75mm. So is it possible to use the Sachtlers base plate and slide it into a 100mm Manfrotto headso I can still use all the accessories? Thanks!!
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted August 20, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted August 20, 2014 I find your question confusing. Camera accessories like a matte box and follow focus fit onto rods connected to a camera baseplate that has one of three rods standards, Lightweight 15mm, Studio 15mm, or Studio 19mm. The baseplate is independent of the tripod plate, you attach the tripod plate to the bottom of the baseplate. So you can use any tripod with any baseplate, as long as the tripod is sturdy enough. This is a really important point. Do not try to put a Kessler jib on your 75mm tripod, 75mm is only meant to handle cameras weighing around 5lbs. There's a reason why the jib only comes with a 100mm bowl. There are bowl adapters that allow you to use a 75mm head on 100mm legs, or 100mm head on 150mm legs, etc. Start with adapters made specifically for your head, the Sachtler website has all the parts numbers. Jordan Watson
Hi Satsuki, this is an old post and I have found the solution. I have purchased a 100mm to 75mm adapter ring for my 75mm Sachtler head to fit onto the end of the jib (which is 100mm). I didn't intend to mean I was putting the jib on my tripod legs. I have bought Kessler's heavy duty tripod for that. Cheers
