Jordan Brade
As a 16 year old kid I'll tell you now that 16 year old kids are over looking at porn, only the sad ones do that. The rest of us get girl friends. Actually the ones with girlfriends can be just as sad as the porn watchers! The ones that watch porn have no prospect of getting laid. The ones with girlfriends have gotten laid but don't get laid often enough to quench their sexual appetite. In a way, having a girlfriend would be like a starving child from Ethiopia being aloud to hold a hamburger, but not aloud to eat it. :P I'm 17, and one of my friends told me how a several people at my school would love to pay me to make pornography of them and their girlfriends. I told him it wasn't worth it. I would lose what little respect I have, and what respect I could possibly gain. It's one thing watching porn. It's entirely different making it. Rik Andino
Sure, but that whole argument ignores the fact that some acts that are perfectly fine in private, CAN (and perhaps should) be considered shameful if done publicly. For instance, there's nothing immoral about having a bowel movement, but it's not quite the same thing if I videotape 90 minutes of the stuff and air it on TV or sell it to your kids, is it? This is another of those twisted logic arguments, that assume "all other things being equal" when they're not. I'm not saying I'm totally anti-porn, but just that this view stated above, is just as ridiculous as the view that ALL nudity is immoral, or whatever. MP <{POST_SNAPBACK}> & this is how we get into those silly moral arguments Where someone's feelings wind up getting hurt... & stupidly enough I'm responding... First of all my original argument was that the popularity of porn And at the same time the public stigmitization of porn Brings into questions America's moral issues And highlights America's horrible double standard. Porn is viewed & bought by the boatloads & not just as some of our younger member mistakenly believe By those who aren't getting sexually satisfied--- (that in itself prompting a whole nother discussion not cinematography based...) A significant percentage of Americans male & female view porn And then consider it to be immoral to participate in such activities. If this isn't the definition of hypocrisy--then I don't know what is. But this has been one of the basic flaws in our American society for ages... Hawthorne showed a great example of this in the Scarlet Letter. Anyways you're making a statement That morality is clearly defined and universally recognized That you can perfectly tell what is moral and what is not. While everyone (or almost everyone) has moral values... It much harder to define what those are. Porn may be shameful to you but it isn't to others. Just like it's not immoral for most of us to see a woman unveiled Just like interracial dating is not immoral to most of us...but it is to others... Do you get my argument? Now...I don't see how this is twisted logic. Personally I wouldn't actively participate in porn But I wouldn't judge everyone working in the industry as shameless degenerates. Okay that said let's sit & watch the flood & chaos this creates As everyone attempts to argues their own moral stance on porn, abortion, & HD. :) Have fun. Guest Daniel J. Ashley-Smith
The ones that watch porn have no prospect of getting laid. No they just sit in there bedroom whilst pleasuring themselves pretending they were in the same room. (That's sad...) The ones with girlfriends have gotten laid but don't get laid often enough to quench their sexual appetite. Uhhh.. well... that all depends.... ;) Only pain in the ass I find about girlfriends, well, my girlfriend anyway, is that they want to see you every day, and when I'm away filming I can?t or find it very difficult. I went to France to shoot a promo once and my god... I must have received god knows how many damn messages; it's like, just sod off for a day or two! Let me do what the hell I want for a few days! (Obviously I didn't say that... I'd be dead by now if I did, and my god I hope she doesn?t come on this web site and read that) The worst part is that I'm going out with an actress, and it's all ok for her to go off and do productions at the theatre, but no the second I want to do something she pulls me back by a leash. I'm 17, and one of my friends told me how a several people at my school would love to pay me to make pornography of them and their girlfriends. I told him it wasn't worth it. I would lose what little respect I have, and what respect I could possibly gain. Uhh, well, firstly, you seriously would lose all respect. It would just feel wrong to me. Secondly, who the f.. are these people anyway? Stay away mate.. stay away... Edited May 12, 2005 by Daniel J. Ashley-Smith

Michael Struthers
You can make big $$$ in porn, but the hours are long and you have to work very hard and you think a filmset is gossipy, it's times 10 on a pornset. But they are using the new sony HDV's and are frequently on the cutting edge.
Landon D. Parks
Hmmmmm, this has to be one of the best threads I have read on here  .... I actually read through all 6 pages, unlike most threads I skip through... Here are my comments. Porno is big, no doubt about it. It is everywhere! Every website I got to (except this one) has some kind of add for a porno film / webite. Either my directly telling me "Come look at the best porn on the net" or "Click here to win an Apple Ipod". And don't you find it very awsome that most sites say "you must be 18 to enter" and yet require to proof of it? Like anybody under age 18 that wants to see porn is gonna say "No, Im a child"... Don't ask me how I know this.... I think the porn industry is special (maybe not in a good way), you have to want to be a porn producer / director / DP... If I was a big producer and someone sent me a demo reel full of porno, I'd pass $20.00 there way and tell them to go find someone else (With the sidenote: PS: Thanks man!") My advice, stay out! at 16 your not even legally old enough to look at porn ( year right) more less make it. PS) One thing I found really sick is these dudes in Russia making these Child Porno Vids, calling them "ART!".... And those little "Lolita" websites out there that claim its legal because its and "Expression of ART!".... :o Dont ask me how I know this either... Riku Naskali
Wow what a topic. Can anyone tell more about the bizz without the moral judgement? I think everyone here is mature enough to make his own conclusions. I'm just wondering, is there really something to be made out of it anymore? Do anyone really buy porn anymore when you can get everything for free? On the other hand, I guess nobody would be making anything, if the market wasn't there. And it's the same with movies in general, too. I guess the people who buy aren't the same people who download.
Dan Salzmann
Isn't this a cinematography forum and more precisely the segment devoted to cinematographers? The best-selling porn stuff looks the most amateur-I discussed this once with a porn producer. Frankly if you want to meet "hot babes" and all that, I suggest you forget cinematography, sell all that gear get a banking degree if you're not the surfer type and buy a sports car. Porn is just wank material. Period.
Guest Daniel J. Ashley-Smith
Porn is just wank material. Period. I'd like to agree with that but there are many artists who take pictures of people naked, that stuff is considered art. For instance, Helmut Newton's work. Rik Andino
Wow what a topic. Can anyone tell more about the bizz without the moral judgement? I think everyone here is mature enough to make his own conclusions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well most of us don't know much about the porn industry Well not enough to paint you an accurate picture... Most of what has been discuss here is just personal and moral opinions... And of course lots and lots of hear-say...and rumors... What I can accurately tell you is that porn is a big industry... But it functions completely apart from the traditional film industry... It has different practices and different standards and even different goals... It is however a legitimate business...and there's nothing wrong with it legally. If that's what you're interested in doing...I suggest you contact porn distributors... They might be better suited to answer your questions. I know in Los Angeles there are always ads That seek individuals to work in different aspects of the porn industry. And now with porn entering into the cell-phone video format... There will be more jobs for those interested in making porn.
