DIY processing tips

Recommended Posts

I've been craking my head to find ways to build a processing tank for 100' loads of 16 mm film and some on-line resources are fine but in my Third World country there are several materials that are not found at all.

Lomo tanks are not an option, racks are way too chemical consuming and the classic bucket renders results that are not satisfactory for me.

I found this site:

http://www.redsharknews.com/production/item/1978-opinion-why-i-prefer-to-shoot-film,-even-for-digital-delivery

where almost by the end the author writes that a he adapted a rack for aJobo tank.

Any thoughts?

I have written that article, you can find images here;

It's relatively easy to adapt a Jobo drum for Super 8 as you're dealing with 8mm wide film that's approximately 50ft. With16mm the film is wider [16mm wide] and twice as long 100ft approx. I have been working on a solution and think the only way is to have a Lomo spiral in a custom built automated tank and not use the Jobo, where the chemicals are automatically poured and drained and the spiral spins automatically.

By seeing your site, Have you ever made a video showing how the tanks works and/or some results?

You'll have to ask the owner of the webpage yourself. ;-) The owner is "Friedemann Wachsmuth". He's also a member of this forum: http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showuser=47833

AFAIK some of his films on Vimeo are processed by himself in his tank: https://vimeo.com/peaceman/videos/
