Bell and Howell filmosound TQI

Hey, I am using for the first time a Bell and Howell filmosound TQI and a small perforated metal disc has dropped in front of the lamp. It is on a spring and will not stay out of the way of the projection. What is its purpose and how may I retract it so it stays out of the way. Also a creamy fluid has arrived around the area oil maybe, is this significant.

Can anyone helppost-66644-0-89935500-1416411183_thumb.jpg

I wonder if what you're seeing is a smear of grease on the moving parts. If so you could replenish it, sparingly, and wipe it off where it's not supposed to be. Presumably it can get runny with the heat.

I probably wouldn't bother unless I were to do a lot of projection.

I worked out that I was running the projector with the heat shield in position. My old bell and howell did not have this feature. I have still to work out its use. It definitely overheated causing as you suggest the grease to run which I have cleaned up.

Thankfully I have run the projector successfully for a few hours now while I transfer my old 16mm movie to my digital camera.

All is well.

Thanks
