learning to develop film and I have very little knowledge i ordered eastman double x 5222 can i use ilford 3 to develop?

yes the for example ilford 3 can be used. you should test the developing times with correctly exposed film samples and start with the basic times Ilford recommends.

You can use small 135 photo spiral tank for testing small under 1m samples and move up to bigger tanks when you have found correct times and temperatures.

you can test with different developers, it's not expensive if using small tanks with small volume
