Lensless 2K Patt828 Safety

Dear all,

I have purchased some 2nd hand fresnel lights. http://www.strandarchive.co.uk/documents/patt828_instructions.pdf

By removing the lens, I believe to get a bit more light and great shadows (chief reason to go lensless), yet not sure how safe that would be in case of lamp failure.

Would it be a good idea to use a square of tempered or laminated glass in the colour frame as a precaution?

On the other hand openface fixtures only have a scrim..

Many thanks in advance!

When in doubt, its always best to go the safest route. I would probably take a gel frame and go pick up some chicken wire or something similar from your local hardware store and then weld or solder (heck, gaff tape?) them together. This shouldn't affect your light output but does add that level of safety in the event something does go wrong. I would also be concerned with the filament projecting itself out the front of the light (why fresnel lenses are frosted).
