Snow Machine

Hi there,

Getting ready to shoot a little short in NY. All ext/night, conversation in a parking lot, snowing through the whole thing. Wide shots will all be done in post, but everything else will be on camera, from full shots to medium shots with some character movement.

Have been looking around for snow machines and there's just a lot out there! So far, really looking at this one:

Wondering if anyone has had experience dealing with fake snow with a super low budget. Anything, from potato flakes to snow machines that have worked well for them...

Thank you all in advance!

Carlos

Ok, just following up for future inquiries.

(Keep in mind based on my personal experience, after using it for the first time, in a ultra low budget situation, so take it with a grain of salt!)

We ended up using one of these and overall were pretty happy with the results! The fact that it has two different controls (fan and snow) gives you options, even though fan at full speed is definitely not dialogue friendly. Didnt have a chance of trying out potato flakes.

Looks really well falling, a bit soapy/foamy when it actually lands and stays on a surface. (its soap based). Also the fluid itself can kick up the budget if you are really tight (As we were) Here are some quick grabs (uncolored):
