Troy m
I'm about to shoot a short film and have a question about focusing the lens of my bolex cam. Should I eyeball it? Or do I use a tape measure from the lens to the subject and then calculate that and adjust the focus ring by what the tape says? I want to be as accurate as possible. The lens is 12.5mm
Brian Drysdale
You meed to use your full real name, it's one of the forum rules. You should contact Tim Tyler the site owner to do this. You should check if the focus scale is accurate first by eye focusing against a high contrast chart of some sort and comparing the tape reading and the scale. You may have to create your own scale on the lens, because short focal length lenses can be rather lacking in marking.
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted March 10, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted March 10, 2015 With a 12.5 mm focal length lens you presumably have an eight millimeter film camera. It would probably be best to visit other fora than this one, perhaps http://filmshooting.com/scripts/forum/index.php?sid=d776846359940ab4705ef63ad35f5f88 http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php http://www.apug.org/forums/groups/acug-analogue-cine-user-group.html. The distance scale rings are accurate enough when you set focus to the one mark of two that corresponds to a somewhat shorter distance. That is the hyperfocal distance.
