Alpha Lab

Not spotting this thread I started another. I read that the mobile 35mm film lab staffed by a mix of former Deluxe, Rank and Technicolor people. Currently there is one unit, but I gather there are plans for more.

20,000 ft per 8 hr shift sounds like it may be intended to service one major production, at most two..

This maked me think of great soviet film director Alexander Medvedkins cinema train. He had whole studio in it from cameras to printing lab. They did go aroud country on rails and make films about people. At the end they screened finished for the same folks that they shoot for the movie.

An other great filmmaker Chris Marker did make brilliant film about Medvedkin: http://chrismarker.org/chris-marker/the-last-bolshevik-by-chris-marker/

I spoke to a retired Deluxe worker who is going to a reunion this weekend, and he thought it was an April Fool's joke :D

But maybe he'll find out more there.

Yes, great idea to cut out the time disadvantage of chemical film.

Does anybody know about a new film lab at Pinewood UK ? I heard that the mobile Alpha Lab has been abandoned (perhaps because we are a small country ?) but apparently there are plans to process Kodak 35mm film at Pinewood.

Ha ha yes me too !

My info could be wrong also about the UK one. Just something I heard

Either way, it looks like film is alive and well for feature production here.

I think you are struggling with the idea of "mobile". This means it can move.

So it wasn't abandoned, it just moved elsewhere.

Shame I thought I might have a new des rez!
