David Hines
Hey fellow light-junkies! I've spent the past week revamping my tired old website from the ground up, and would really appreciate some feedback on it. Overall design, content, functionality, etc... Thanks! www.davidthines.com
Laffrey Witbrod
I would replace the banner image of the stars with a really nice still from your work. Also the "Go To Links" are not working for me, I assume that these are to play the examples you have listed. I would also change it to "Play" rather then "go to link" Hope this is helpful. Premium Member Bill DiPietra Posted September 23, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 23, 2015 You have nice work, but the overall design of the site is a bit bland. I'd try to jazz it up a bit.
David Hines
Thanks for the feedback guys, I've made a few adjustments to the site. I may end up just hiring a developer when I get back to the states, as I not only suck at web design, but I find it incredibly frustrating. Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted September 25, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 25, 2015 The design is probably better than mine: http://www.davidmullenasc.com I just use a Rapidweaver template, it's very easy to use and update but limited in terms of fonts, design, layout. I've noticed that every artist these days likes the white Apple Store-like background, but I've always preferred to see film frames and video against a dark background. It just pops more. Imagine if the walls around a movie theater screen were painted white.
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted September 25, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 25, 2015 Personally i'm partial to my own black and grey layout. White is-- well it'll wash out the contrast http://adriansierkowski.com/
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted September 25, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 25, 2015 How do you embed the Vimeo clip in your site without any Vimeo borders and logos, etc.? Do you have to be a member of Vimeo Pro or something?
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted September 25, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 25, 2015 Yep the Pro account is what allows you to customize the player, and do an HD embed and get a 1080P encode on their end (plus saving the source file which can be helpful). Worth the $$/yr and another little tax deduction.
David Hines
I'm not a huge fan of the white background either, I think that was just a reaction on my part to the overly dark design that I had prior to this one. I'm still in the process of tinkering with it in an effort to have the web design take a backseat to the content. The wix.com editor has some pretty decent features, but it gets in it's own way some times; in retrospect, I probably would have gone with a hosting service that allows more freedom in content creation, but for now, it works. Thanks for all the feedback guys!
