And the deep reds and blues and orange. And then there is Spring Breakers that has the most amazing deep color. What do you guys use as tools to create these deep colors - is it a certain Lee gel over a tungsten light - is it special colored kino bulbs. The Storaro collection by Rosco is a good place to start. Forgot to mention production design and locations. Find areas that have lots of neon signs, richly colored murals, graffiti. For deep saturated color, I also like Primary Red, Fire Red, Chrome Orange, Yellow 101, Spring Yellow, Peacock Blue, and Chrysanthemum Pink. I'd recommend ordering a few gel swatch books from Rosco and Lee Filters so you can flip through find the ones you like. Matthew Padraic Barr Posted October 28, 2015 Share Posted October 28, 2015 You mentioned Spring Breakers, which was shot by Benoit Debie, AFC.In that film, they shot on 2-perf film, and Debie claims that you can't getthe same amount of in-camera color on digital, you need to do a lot ofwork in post to get the colors he achieved largely in-camera with film. As Satsuki already mentioned, gels work great.And I love Storaro gels as well. But don't forget about lens filtration.Again in Spring Breakers, Debie used Blue/Yellow and Blue/LimeVaricolor Polarizers during the first part of the film, the music-videopart, and that's how he got such interesting colors in the sky and thesea for those scenes, which were lit only by sunlight. The last time I used party gels was back in like 2008 with the hxv200 and I was an idiot for stopping at that because that camera could not handle color at all.
