Help needed: Changing fps on an Arri 35 BL4s

Hi All,

 

I have an Arriflex 35mm BL4s and when I run it, it immediately goes to 39fps. This is with no accessories plugged in. Is there a way to reset or change the frame rate? I do not have a manual for the camera.

It's been a while but from memory you can only select 24 or 25fps on the camera body, for other speeds you need an external speed control plugged into the accessory socket. So if your camera is automatically running at 39fps I would have to say it sounds like there is a fault with the crystal speed electronics. Might need a visit to the doctor, though who can still repair a BL4s I wouldn't know.

If you do get it working, Jon Fauer's Arriflex 35 book is very good, and can be had second hand for about $25.

Thanks for your help. I plugged in my external speed controller and that worked great, I was able to get the proper 24fps. But it looks like it's time to send the BL to the doctor.
