What is this screen for?

Hey all, sorry for the novice question but I've seen a few times where someone will be holding a screen next to or behind the steadicam operator. What is the purpose of this? It doesn't appear to be affecting light from what I can tell.

I've attached a BTS pic from The Intern as an example.

Thanks!

Unlike Grips, Steadicam operators usually aren't as strong as a bull, so the slightest breeze can knock them over. Hence the mobile windbreak. In the heat of summer, on sunny days a second grip will be holding a parasol over the operator's head.

I wore one of those years ago at a Sammys open day. It was like having a small (well, not so small) child hanging off your shoulders, with his feet on your chest.

I'm surprised operators don't develop bovine characteristics, unless it's to maintain the mystique of appearing to have magical powers.
