Jamison Madison
On Imdb, a lot of operators are usually credited simply as ( Camera Operator ) on most projects. But other operators on IMDB are credited as ( "a" camera operator ) instead. The question, is the "a" added intentionally to specify that they were the main camera operator of the show? As an operator which one you do prefer? Just "Camera Operator", or "a" Camera Operator ?
Daniel Meier
Maybe this is to distinguish between first untit and second unit operators. Whereas if there is just one unit then they leave it as "Camera Operator". Just my guess!
Stuart Brereton
The 'A' Camera credit would imply that there were two (or more) cameras on one unit. If it was a single camera show then just Camera operator would be used.
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted July 19, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted July 19, 2016 To further clarify, each camera package on a show is assigned an individual letter and a specific color. This is so that all the separate accessories and cases can be marked with colored tape and accounted for when the job is over. So the main camera is 'A Camera' (Red), then 'B Camera' (Blue), 'C Camera' (Yellow), etc. Each camera typically will have a full camera crew assigned, so there is the A Camera Operator, A Camera 1st AC, A Camera 2nd AC, then B Camera Operator, etc. Things get more complicated when you also have multiple units shooting simultaneously, sometimes very far apart. Typically, the 1st Unit A Camera 1st AC is responsible for running the entire department.
