The "Flourescent" Look

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Looking for some info on how to achieve the neon/flourescent look and what types of bulbs/lights/gels you all are using.

an example is attached.

Would love to hear your ideas

I'm not sure there's anything specifically fluorescent related about that. It's just soft red light, possibly bounced off the ceiling. It could be fluorescent, but it could be a lot of other things.

The colour could be a gel, such as Lee's #164 Flame Red, which I recently used for a darkroom scene. Or, it could be a colour-tuneable LED. It doesn't look like a coloured fluorescent tube, to me, as those tend to be pinkish rather than a deep ruby.

Ive noticed that it really matters the color temperature of a bulb before you add gels.

For example If im looking for a blue look, I would need to use a daylight source to really get some blue.. is that the case with all gels? Or just CTO and CTB?

Thanks!

You can also muck around with the cameras WB... if your shooting digital .. e.g. 4300 in daylight 5600 environment will appear bluer .. (think I have that the right way round :)
