What camera?

Older Arri mag tensions were measured with an Arri tension gauge that used numbered divisions that equated to newtons of force. The recommended value written on the gauge for 1000 ft mags for 35BL series cameras was 8. 400 ft mags were set to 5.

The gauge used a string with a hook that latched into the slot of a film core, so the string would wrap around the core before pulling on the gauge.

Newer cameras like Arricams use mags with electronically controlled tensions that shouldn't need adjusting.
