dan kessler
Do any of you camera techs know if there is a typical recommended value for take-up tension in 1000' 35mm magazines? I've got a spring scale hooked into the rim of a 2" core mounted on the take-up hub. Thanks.
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted April 27, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted April 27, 2017 What camera? Older Arri mag tensions were measured with an Arri tension gauge that used numbered divisions that equated to newtons of force. The recommended value written on the gauge for 1000 ft mags for 35BL series cameras was 8. 400 ft mags were set to 5. The gauge used a string with a hook that latched into the slot of a film core, so the string would wrap around the core before pulling on the gauge. Newer cameras like Arricams use mags with electronically controlled tensions that shouldn't need adjusting.
dan kessler
This is a camera I built. My scale has newton and gram calibrations so the Arri values might just work. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks again.
