Robino Jones
Are Kodak Vision3 16mm and 35mm stocks the exact same film / formula, only 16mm is a sliced up version of 35mm? ..and if they are the same stocks, is the bigger grain on 16mm due to greater magnification during scanning, optical blow up? Mark Dunn
The emulsions are the same, but 16mm isn't "sliced up" 35mm. Stocks are cut to width from a 54" wide master roll and perforated later. The whole of a given master roll would be slit into the same format and if you order a complete master roll Kodak will slit, perforate and package it into any available format you choose.
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted March 12, 2018 Premium Member Share Posted March 12, 2018 Yes, the larger 16mm grain is due to greater magnification when shown on a screen or monitor of the same size as 35mm material using the same emulsion.
