AnthonyMcPherson
Hi, I'm still saving up to purchase a light meter but was curious to know if I could use a monitor with false color as a substitute until then. I know the importance of a light meter but could a false color
Michael LaVoie
You're better off with a monitor that has a waveform feature rather than false color. Much easier to use. You can get really cheap used meters at BnH btw.

Premium Member Mark Kenfield Posted March 23, 2018 Premium Member Share Posted March 23, 2018 A good light meter can outlast a career. It's an essential tool for the job, so my recommendation would be to save yourself the time, energy and money exploring alternatives. And instead just get your pennies together ASAP and make the investment. You only need a few hundred dollars.

It's free but keeps bugging you to upgrade to "mylightermeterpro". But it works :) I use it mostly for still photography shooting with film.
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted March 23, 2018 Premium Member Share Posted March 23, 2018 Light meters are going to be cheaper than most monitors on the whole. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Light%20Meter&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search=&usedSearch=

I kinda made the amateur mistake of investing way too much on rigs and lens straight out the gate.
