Spencer Katz
Found a few links to some gear that supposedly allows you to swap out the PL mount on an Alexa Classic to a Canon mount and just wondering if anyone has experience with something like this and if it would work? Here's some links, thanks! https://www.abelcine.com/buy/lenses-accessories/lens-mount-adapters/arri-ef-lens-mount https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1173014-REG/optitek_cpli_ar3_canon_prolock_i_adapter_for.html?ap=y&gclid=CjwKCAjw6djYBRB8EiwAoAF6oapyJQBFFoxtIr5JejbVGZLIysQWAT7TqRchV6BW4ErtuFbYV7ZBWxoCCewQAvD_BwE&smp=n http://www.leitax.com/conversion/Cine/Alexa/index.html https://www.pstechnik.de/en/ims-2-professional-ef-mount-for-alexa/a-1468/
Stuart Brereton
Those are all reputable vendors. I don't see why you would have any problems as long as you install the mount correctly.
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted June 6, 2018 Premium Member Share Posted June 6, 2018 The first two mounts are only for Alexa Mini and Amira. The last two should work on an Alexa Classic, though bear in mind they are purely mechanical mounts so electronic aperture lenses will not work. You will also very likely need to shim the mount if you want the focus scale to read correctly on an EF cine lens or want a parfocal zoom to hold focus. The P&S Technik EF mount seems to supply shims, not sure about Leitax. Under the PL mount are thin metal shims that need to be carefully refitted when you convert the camera back to PL. If the camera has LDS contacts, removing and refitting the PL mount is somewhat more complicated, but not out of the capabilities of a technical person. Roman Alaivi
I've swapped out the PL mount to EF with the Leitax Canon Solid mount quite a number of times. Never had an issue and it's nice to have access to manual EF glass when needed in a pinch.
