PC as monitor BMCC

Mark A. Rapp

Recommended Posts

I have a Blackmagic 2.5K Cinema Camera.

I want to connect a PC as a monitor, just for focus while shooting outside. The PC has a Thunderbolt and USB 3 ports.

Can I just plug in from the camera via Thunderbolt, or will I need a certain program, or hardware to do it?

I'm asking about the simplest, easiest method to do this. I'm not a tech sort of fellow.

Thanks!

You'd just need an SDI to HDMI converter, and plug it straight into the PC monitor. Some older PC monitors may only have DVI, but that's just an adapter.

Blackmagic themselves make converters which are probably suitable, though I've never tried it. Some monitors may be fussy about specific input frame rates and so on, but usually it's fine. I have an old Dell FPW-2405 in a flight case with a Blackmagic HDLink for just this sort of thing.
