Christopher Santucci
I'm looking for high speed camera rental options that are easy & cheap, ideally without an attendant tech, HD resolution at at least 500fps. Thanks for any help.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted June 26, 2018 Premium Member Share Posted June 26, 2018 Tricky. Look for a Sony FS700 with the raw recorder on the back. I suspect there are some available for rental, though I know of at least one place that was selling them off because they were considered yesterday's news. They will do 240fps very nicely. You may consider the 480 usable. It's a very cheap option compared to any of Vision Research's cameras, which tend to turn up on a longboat surrounded by garlands of flowers and a group of highly-paid attendants fanning the thing with palm leaves and chanting mysterious incantations. Christopher Santucci
Hahaha. yeah, you know what I'm trying to avoid. Yeah, I landed on the FS700 while researching options but I have a Red Epic, so looking for something that might surpass what I can do with that. I did also just find a few very good looking rental options on eBay.
Phil Connolly
What about the Chronos? http://www.krontech.ca/chronos-14-demos.html Not phantom quality - but able to do 1000fps at 1280 by 1024 - which is slower then sony and red and maybe doable resolutionwise. More affordable too. Or if you can shoot at around 200-250fps - time remapping tools like twixtor start to work quite well and with a 2x slow mo could probably simulate 500fps quite well. Christopher Santucci
Not sure that would work, Phil, but it looks interesting. I've dabbled with Twixtor and I know it has limitations but I may revisit that option for my project.
