Aperture affects color?

Recommended Posts

In the July 2018 AC, Jayson Crothers says, "If you open up to a T4 or T5.6, you end up losing detail and color in the fire, so a T8 is usually the widest I'll shoot on the burn stage..."

I don't think I've ever noticed a change in aperture affecting the color. Can anyone explain this to me?

I can't read his mind, but I don't think he means "detail" as in greater DoF- he's referring to gradation of colour and density which would be lost if overexposed. DoPs sometimes use qualitative terms- they're artists as well as technicians.
