hey everyone,

I purchased a Bolex from my friend and it's strange because is said "H16 S" on it but it's a reflex camera and from what I've learned all of the "S" models are non-reflex.

It even says H16 Reflex on the camera.

Could it be possible that the label was added later ?

here are some pics.

any help is greatly appreciated

thanks!

This or an S was reflexed. To find out, look whether you see a slotted screw head just behind the upper tip of the claw cover. If there’s one, it was an S, if not, you have an RX with the wrong name plate.

thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what the claw cover is? does the photo below help ID which bolex? thanks!

A designates the claw cover, the metal sheet. The screw I mean would be about where the arrow points to. You don’t need to remove the claw cover.

The magazine saddle, by the way, is also not the original one. A camera full of surprises

A Reflex nameplate would be available from Bolex international, Yverdon.

The other thing that indicates a RX-4 was modified is the missing sprocket guides retainer fork and the steel aperture plate. Magazine models have a means for keeping the spring-loaded sprocket guides open and an anodized aluminum aperture plate. But you can film with that camera. Guess it wasn’t too expensive.

so you believe its a rex-4, not a rex-5?

With the two lenses? Bargain. I see a Switar 25 mm, f/1.4 and a Switar 10 mm, f/1.6. Do check whether they’re marked RX and, please, give us a view of the reflex prism from front.
