Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted February 20, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2019 Hi all, I've finally published an entry on the Arri 16St in my cinetinker blog, documenting a full strip down and service that I did about 5 years ago. It's far from a definitive guide, but it does go through the various steps involved in disassembling one of these beautiful cameras, and details a few of the things a technician would check. I was initially hesitant to publish it, because it does require some specialised tools and without some experience it's very easy to do more harm than good by disassembling something as precisely calibrated as an Arriflex camera, but then there seems to be interest in this sort of guide, and the knowledgeable technicians are becoming rarer and rarer, so I thought why not. I have deliberately left out most of the details of servicing the movement though, because it's just too involved. Any technicians who feel inspired to contribute information, or to correct any mistakes I may have made, are more than welcome! :) I have to confess I've forgotten so much about film camera maintenance now that the digital age has arrived and the clients who were once willing to pay for this sort of work are no longer around. Apart from the odd Bolex, I never work on film cameras any more, my head is full of lenses these days. Anyway, for those interested, enjoy: https://cinetinker.blogspot.com/2019/02/arri-16st-service.html
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted February 20, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2019 Read it yesterday, great job, thank you. I’m at one right now, serial number 67XX, if I find something additional worth a mention, I’ll take it here.

Mark Yarbrough
Thank you very much Dom for your work on this! Who knows, perhaps this will lead to increased work for the few professional technicians still servicing these cameras. I'm only half joking. Fabian Schreyer
Thanks a lot for this amazing writeup! ? You do mention two different kinds of grease: 'Arri's "special grease" Isoflex LDS 18/05' and 'Molykote G-n paste'. But I do not find any reference later on on what grease gets used where. I guess the Isoflex is for the claw movement? Would be great if you could clarify on that!
