James Woodbridge
Heya all, Apart from the Arri UWZ 19-36mm, can anyone else off the top of their head think of any ranges of anamorphic lenses with focal lengths wider than 35mm? DOP and I can't for the life of me think of any Cheers James
Dan Hasson
Hawk and Optimo have. But they're widest focal length is 30mm. I'm sure someone else on here will be able to tell you with a better lens knowledge than me though. All the best, Dan
Premium Member Miguel Angel Posted February 20, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2019 Hi! The widest I know of (other than the Arri Zoom) is a 22mm Lomo Squarefront lens but it is quite impossible to find. There is also a 28mm Master Anamorphic https://www.camtec.tv/arri-zeiss-master-anamorphics Atlas has a 32mm https://atlaslensco.com/orionseries/ Caldwell Chameleon has a 25mm https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/02/05/caldwell-chameleon-1-79x-anamorphic-lenses/ Cineovision has either a 22mm or a 24mm (depending on the manufacturer) https://www.camtec.tv/cineovision-anamorphic/ Cooke has a 25 https://www.cookeoptics.com/l/anamorphiclens.html Elite anamorphics made a 25mm https://www.camtec.tv/optika-elite-mkv Kowa has the 32mm https://www.camtec.tv/kowa-cine-prominar-anamorphic Hawk has a 25mm https://www.camtec.tv/hawk-cseries-anamorphic Have a lovey day. Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted February 20, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2019 The widest 2x anamorphic I know of is a Lomo 22mm - humongous square-fronted beast it is - and they also made a much smaller 30mm square-front. Not counting the 16mm range (which goes down to 14mm), Hawk have a 28mm V-Lite in 2x, and go down to 20, 24 and 28 with a 1.3x squeeze. Panavision have a 25mm G series and 28mm E and T anamorphics. There was a 32mm Technovision anamorphic (Cooke based). That's all I can think of at the moment.
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted February 20, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2019 I used to work at a rental house in Melbourne that has the 22mm Lomo, Miguel - Cameraquip. It is a rare beast indeed! It sucked in dust like a vacuum cleaner, I had to pull it apart to clean it every few jobs!

I have seen photos of it on reduser and it definitely looks like one of those lenses that could cause a lot of trouble! Never seen anything shot with it though, it has to be quite interesting! Have a good day!

Have a good day! 22mm Fast Anamorphic Prime playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2bpsBJG6Q2pLt15W3OcHNgVMQahVXW64 While the front of this lens is 'square-ish' in shape the focus system is akin to the 'round-fronts' in that it incorporates a strong +/- diopter pair up front thus minimizing distortion/breathing effects. It is tack sharp and stops open to T2.4. Made ~1988. Now, there is also an older model from the 70's or so that incorporates the 'square-front' configuration which accomplishes focus with a mid-deployed or aft-deployed focusing group. I should have a playlist for this second lens going in about a year as it is undergoing heavy maintenance. 30mm Anamorphic Prime playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2bpsBJG6Q2rCSAkqA8rS2d_VlD9bf5aZ This is a 'square-front' lens with the mid/aft-deployed focus group. It is a pain to convert these to PL so it is currently undergoing complete rehousing. It should also be done in about a year. As is with a dodgy mount it looks pretty sharp close up.
