Tape Holders for Chest Rig

Recommended Posts

Hello, fellow AC's!

So I'm looking to "decant" my larger spools of camera, paper, and electrical tape onto some smaller spools to make it a little more portable for my chest rig. I'm just wondering what to search for online to find some of the tape "bobbins" I've seen many AC's wear. I've searched all day but cannot find any that are made purely for tape, ideally, I don't want to buy thread bobbins and waste all of the thread by throwing it away. Does anyone know what the best ones to search for would be?

The main one used is 35mm film cores from motion picture film. Pretty standard practice.

For spike tape 16mm cores work well or empty sellotape cores.

I've also seen some people use PVC pipe cut to size but not sure how that weighs up price wise if you don't already have spare bits lying around.

Chris is spot on - 35mm cores are what pretty much everyone uses for the standard cloth tape.

Now all you need is a trainee with some time on their hands to decant it all!
