expired material

Recommended Posts

I have two 100' reels of vision3 7219 which were purchased from kodak some 10 years ago...

did anybody here use this stock after so long and could help me guess how bad it's condition should be? It was kept in the refrigerator for about half of that time and the rest of the time in a closet in the shade.

I just want to use them to run some camera tests and am wondering if the results should be good enough to estimate sharpness or even exposure...

If it's been stored anywhere near properly, it should be fine. There will be a fog layer tho, which means you will have to expose a bit over normal, usually a stop or two covers it. If its not been stored properly, it will just be super grainy and have a color shift. Usually the red and blue channels shift quite dramatically.

The film will look pretty good especially if refrigerated for that time I would just not shoot it in low light.

I personally see allot of older "expired" stock come through Cinelab and it always looks pretty if not perfect.

As Tyler said it will likely have more grain and the blue layer goes noisy first.
