BrandonFuller
I have tried youtube, but have not found good quality color grading videos. Most of them seem to be simple “this is how it works” videos, instead of a why we change particular colors, and what colors you want to aim for, and what colors go well together. Also I know opacity of color grading really can mess up a video. Thanks for any help
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted July 22, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted July 22, 2019 The colorist forum is a good resource. https://liftgammagain.com/forum/index.php Also, there are some old posts here discussing the RGB-CMY complementary color wheel, and primary vs secondary corrections, which would be a good place to start. A word search should bring them up.
Brian Drysdale
Steve Hullfish's book "The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction" is worth looking at
Bruce Greene
My first reaction to this question is to learn Photoshop well first. The concepts are the same, only the software is different. And there are many many good books and articles about Photoshop. Color grading books, not so much as the user base is much much smaller.
Hannes Famira
I am just working my way through the Film Simplified online courses and I am very happy about the way things are explained: https://deals.filmsimplified.com/home They have a bunch of free classes that will give you a good idea of the level of detail and the pace of the classes. I am a total beginner and from my vantage point I highly recommend it!
Max Field
Screwing around with the controls Davinci Resolve had to offer really opened things up for me. Although it's important to have your own vision going in to make sure you're not just cranking sliders willy nilly.
Nicolas POISSON
Blackmagic provides a tutorial in its beginner's guide to DaVinci Resolve. It contains both "correction of obviously wrong colours" and "define your own aesthetic" examples, with sample videos. It is very basic but it is a good introduction. Premium Member Frank Wylie Posted July 21, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted July 21, 2020 Blackmagic Training: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training Go to the bottom and take the intro and color grading courses. There is downloadable footage and a lesson plan. You can even take a test and be certified by Blackmagic for free. Also, there are good tutorials on Lowepost.com, but I believe they are subscription-based, as are many more online.
