Max Field
I went to a machinist last week to invent a little baby pin with a 5/8 27 threading at the end of it to easier integrate my microphone clips into my lighting rigs for overheads. I googled for months and couldn't find a piece exactly like that. Anyone else have little quick tools custom made for their specific workflows? 1
Alessandro Imperiale
Me and a friend started making baby pins out of 304L stainless steel with 1/4-20 male/female at either end primarily cause we could be more confident in their strength on car rigs/spring clamps/etc. Also because we could specify the length of the pin and thread that we needed. Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted March 9, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted March 9, 2021 I've become a big fan of scaffold tube for everything. It's so massively sturdy that it's easy to be adequately confident of safety for most of the things I do. It's heavy, even in aluminium, but at some point it's more useful to have a standard than it is essential that the standard be perfect for every job. The risers on my dolly are two parallel lengths of aluminium scaffold tube. Not much flex in that...
Ed Conley
SS isn't really that much stronger than standard steel. The main benefit is its resistance to corrosion. It is also more prone to mucking up the threads and snapping bolts. I prefer a bolt to bend rather than snap off :
