Robin R Probyn Posted December 8, 2019 Share Posted December 8, 2019 f55/5 sensor is 17-9 ..4096 x 2160 .. the above XAVC info is a bit old as for many years now , initially with a paid FW upgrade ,but now when bought new .. the f5 can also record 4K XAVC 17-9 or 16-9 internally ..to SxS cards (originally the f55 only could do 4K internal XAVC recording and the f5 only in raw with the external recorder). There was a bit of a scandal at the time as Sony had claimed the f5 could never record 4K internally .although the sensor was a 4K one.. down sampling to HD..a DoP in the UK "hacked" .. not in a criminal way as he only added to totally unprotected code.. the same code as the f55 had .. and bingo ! the f5 recorded 4K internally .. forcing Sony to eat humble pie, and to change the FW to stop the "hack" and provide a $999.00 4K up date to f5 owners !!..
