david richardson
Hello any advice on a tripod head for my camera. I have a Manfrotto 229. But I fear this might not be strong enough. Any advice would be great. Keeping my budget low, but safe as I've seen some heads over a grand! I want to use it handheld mostly but Do want some thing stead for telephoto footage and some tripod movements.
Brian Drysdale
If short of funds, a second hand or used tripod is the way to go. Which Eclair are you using, the NPR or the ACL?

Which Eclair are you using, the NPR or the ACL? Hi Brian, definitely going to go used. I'm using the NPR, which seems a bit bigger. My tripod is the Manfrotto 058b which looks stable enough, but I doubt the head is. Edited February 15, 2020 by david richardson
Brian Drysdale
In that case I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 100 mm bowl tripod with an associated head. The NPR is a pretty top heavy camera and the only times I've used one we had 150mm bowl tripods.
AJ Young
Libec makes killer and affordable tripods.

Gregg MacPherson
If you are working alone, repositioning a lot...you need something light. If not, something like an old O'Connor 50..? Can be cheap... https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=oconnor+50&_sacat=625&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=625&_odkw=oconnor+
Brian Drysdale
The old film industry gear is well engineered and can outlast the new video heads A Libec tripod suitable for an NPR probably costs more than your budget. The camera.weighs 21lbs and I don't know if that includes the lens. and it's not best to be working at the limit of your head.
