Toto Vivian
I was wondering if anyone had any tips for mounting stockings & nets to the front of my lens / matte box? Embroidery hoops?
Stuart Brereton
If the lens has a filter thread, you could try stretching the net over the front of the lens, then screwing in an appropriately sized skylight filter. If not, try rubber bands.
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted May 14, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted May 14, 2020 Before I got some metal 4x5 frames to stretch and glue nets onto, I used to use chipboard from the back of a notepad. I'd draw out the inner and outer lines of the circle or rectangle, with thick borders for the board because it will bend if too thin, and cut out the inner shap with an x-acto knife and cut excess outside the outer border. Then I'd stretch the net across and use a stapler on the excess edge to hold it down (you could try thumb tacks) and work my way around stretching it, trying not to get a run. Once that was done, I would rub white glue along the inner border and once it was dry, I could cut off the excess border. Here is one of my oldest cardboard filters before I learned to staple along an excess edge and trim it off:
