Brendan Collins Posted October 13, 2020 Share Posted October 13, 2020 Hi. My 16M when run at 8.4V with a constant speed motor only spins at around 18FPS, and sometimes will drop to 10-12. (Batteries new and good, cables new) 8.4V supply only meters 4/5 Volts at the motor... When run at 12V with a constant speed motor, it spins at 24FPS. When an empty magazine is applied, it only spins at 22FPS. But with 12V supplied, it meters right around 8V at the motor. Does the 16M take 12V? Serial number 097. (Early!!) I read they are suppose to take 8V.. Do I have a bad grounding where I'm losing voltage? (motor->casing?) Motors are both good, tested on my arri 16S with zero problems. Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted October 13, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted October 13, 2020 If the motors run OK on a 16St then you've probably got some resistance somewhere between battery and motor causing such a huge voltage drop. You can use the multimeter to check resistance along cables, plugs and chassis earth to see what's up. Also make sure the camera turns over manually without too much effort, or tight spots. Literature says the DC motors run off 8V or even a 6 V car battery for 24 fps: https://www.pacificrimcamera.com/rl/01080/01080.pdf There were also A/C motors. The manual recommends not using anything higher than 8V: https://issuu.com/filmmaker8.com/docs/arriflex_16m_16mb_operating_manual though people have run the variable speed motors at 12V.
