John Salim
Are there any members out there who could shed some light on the uses of wire recorders used in the field ? A friend of mine recently found a 'Webster Chicago' recorder and wants to know if they were used by the military. Any information however trivial would be gladly received. Cheers, John S
Charlie Peich
Hello John! Take a look at this site for the 'Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording'. It states that the Webster Wire Recorder was made after the war. A link to the Wire recorders: https://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/Wire.html Cheers! Daniel D. Teoli Jr.
Wire recorders are crazy! I found about them from an old DJ I was working with. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=wire+recorder&_sacat=0 I was going to expand my audio archive into wire, but it is just too much spreading for me. R/R tape is as far back as I could manage. Here are the service instructions for a Webster 79/80. https://nvhrbiblio.nl/schema/Webster_80.pdf Edited October 20, 2020 by Daniel D.
