Wire Sound Recorders used during WW II

Recommended Posts

Are there any members out there who could shed some light on the uses of wire recorders used in the field ?
A friend of mine recently found a 'Webster Chicago' recorder and wants to know if they were used by the military.

Any information however trivial would be gladly received.

Wire recorders are crazy! I found about them from an old DJ I was working with.

I was going to expand my audio archive into wire, but it is just too much spreading for me. R/R tape is as far back as I could manage.

Here are the service instructions for a Webster 79/80.
