I'd say don't worry about length so much in your statement, just get the message across.

When you apply for grants / fellowships they usually requires some text beyond the basic contact info. Sometimes you are limited to what you can say. I developed my statement way back when I applied for a Guggenheim Fellowship. (I didn't get one.) They had a text limit on the application. I also applied for another grant and it was even tighter for text limit.

You may or may not need one in your pocket, but nice to have one or more versions of a statement if the need arises. I still have to write one for my film and archival work.
