There's nothing wrong with liking 1.85, it's just that it is so close to 1.78 there's no reason to say one is better than another.

Your frame posted is 1.85 letterboxed inside something like 1.60 : 1. 

1.85 letterboxed inside 1.78 would look something like this:

The outer box is 1.78 and the black borders show 1.85 inside that. The difference is so minimal that to suggest one works most of the time and the other rarely works is a bizarre claim. If I put up a

1.78 vs. 1.85...So one shot works but the other shot doesn’t work???

There's no reason to love one rectangle but say the other doesn't work for composing in. If you ask most people to tell you the difference or identify the two formats, without a ruler, they would think they were more or less similar:

If I posted a series of photos on Instagram and alternated between these two aspect ratios, almost no one would notice.

Hi David, sorry for the late reply. I meant I took a liking to 1.85 after maybe being too dogmatic about scope/anamorphic. 

As you said, the difference between 1.85/1.78 is nearly indistinguishable. 

That was just a screenshot, new laptop I don't remember where I put my color correction stills, so I did quick grab.
