Alejandro Wilkins
I will be shooting a Day Ext. scene that will have Rain Fx. I need to figure out a way to make sure that the rain shows up on film. We will be using small rain towers and will can shade the area in the shot from the sun if needed. The background of the shot is the entrance of a building, so I don't have to worry about seeing far off into the distance. I know that in order to see rain on film I'd need to back light it, however, I am not sure how to go about this when shooting a Daytime Ext. My light package includes various Fresnels, none larger than a 2k, 1 Kino Diva 400, Plus 2 silver reflectors. Is there any combination of equipment and its setup that would get me the results I want? Any suggestions about other equipment I should look into renting? Thanks, Alejandro

Premium Member Kevin Zanit Posted April 22, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted April 22, 2004 You could try the shiny boards bounced into the rain. Or wait for the sun to be in a better position to backlight the rain. Also be sure to wet down as much on screen area as possible, it helps sell it. Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted April 23, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted April 23, 2004 Backlight and frame against a darker background like trees or the shaded side of a building.
