Guy Meachin
I've looked at the focal length measurements for my standard zoom lens for the XL1S and it says 5.5-88mm. Given that in photography 28mm is a wide-angle lens and 17mm is an ultra-wide lens how can I possibly have a 5.5-88mm lens on my camera? The 5.5mm is very confusing because surely at my widest (5.5mm) I should have extreme barrel distortion! Have I got my theory wrong here? Do measurements from photography lenses apply to video camera lenses? Thanks
harryprayiv
I think this might be an odd place to post that question.

Guest Fred
"Since the CCD (the device used to collect the light) in the digital camera is much smaller than a film camera then all the lenses and their focal lengths are smaller too. A digital camera (photo or video) with a 6-15mm lens and a certain size CCD has exactly the same range as a regular film camera with a 28-72mm zoom lens." Alvin Pingol
I thought cinematographers knew about lenses. The conference "Cinematographers" is in regards to specific... Here, let me just post the conference description: "Discussions about specific DPs, including on-set accounts and diaries." I think that's the point demesisx was trying to make.
