Need a new door for my 2C

Hello everyone, I can't beleive my luck in finding this forum..it is fantasic!

I have purchased a nice little 2C with Tobin base and Panavision swing matte box, I shot 400' of test

using all 3 lens sizes that I have (BNCR mount) and considering that I new very little about the background of the camera, the results were fantastic (steady and no weave) The only slight problem was me getting used to the correct loop size, yes it snapped on my first try!..and a tiny mark inside the 20mm lens that was fortunatly away from the action safe area..and that was only visible because I had a full frame print! (from 1:85)

I'm looking for an upgrade for my door, the optics I'm sure have seen better days and I would really want a video door replacement. I don't have mega bucks for a Jurgens but have heard of people making their own modifications to an existing door (with beam-spliter etc) I'm looking for a replacement door anyway but was wondering if any folks may have, or know of anywhere that do ready-made tap conversions of 2c doors?

(B&W or colour, PAL format prefered)

I'm itching to shoot some more material with it and at the moment the door is the only thing slightly causing issues, I'm planning to do some effects shots where video assist is pretty essential plus I want to start using it on my Steadicam..Also, anyone know of where "non-expensive" 400' mags could be found?(displaced shoulder, steadicam type)

Thanks guys..any feedback would be awsome on this.

Hello James!! Have you checked out the Visual Products "Visual Video Tap for Arri II C/B Cameras"? Here's a direct link to the door/tap:

http://www.visualproducts.com/storeProduct...ctID=443&Cat=11

I haven't used it, so I can't comment on how it looks. Having not used the tap, I don't know what type of beam splitter they use, so you may have to use a "circular" polarizer to prevent darkening of the viewing image and/or the video tap. Be sure to ask them about this if you are interested in this tap. Read the Schnieder filter info on polarizers. Link:

http://www.schneideroptics.com/filters/fil...ion/polarizers/

I think you have to send them your door and they exchange it for the all ready modified door with tap. Not sure though. It could be they just simply modify your door. I do recall Visual was looking for "extra or spare" II-C doors when they sarted offering this tap a few years ago. You'll have to contact them to find out about the PAL camera.

Hope this helps. I do know one of the techs at Visual, if you need additional help, let me know.

I just checked the exchange rate... $1 = 0.5612 GBP. Now's the time to up grade your camera!

There are a number of options to put a video assist on a 2c/b door.

Best and most expensive is the Jurgens door. Check out www.jurgen.com. Benefits are 100% of the light to both eyepiece and video assist and pivoting eyepiece. Most probably cost more than you paid for the camera!

Then there are partial beam splitters placed in the door. Usually they give around 70% of light to the eyepiece 30% to video assist. Check out Visual Products or for a much cheaper option get in touch with Steve Morton. check out : http://members.optusnet.com.au/~smort1/cinecamods/mods

Take Charlie's advice about pola's

Next, look at SL cine video door. 100% video door no eyepiece - check out: http://www.slcine.com/html/index.html

Then cheapest of all is a video assist attached to the eyepiece. Usually b/w . Again look at Steve Mortons' site or Duall camera at http://www.duallcamera.com/store/VideoTaps.shtml

As stated on previous boards the 2c baffles make an interesting effect for watching producers so best explain to director, producer etc. what they are.
