Ckulakov
Dear filmmakers, I have recently posted my photography on my website. Please tell me what you think. Do you think I should stop adding contrast to my shots? The website is: russianmagic.tripod.com (then go to the gallery) THANK YOU
Guest Josh Gannon
It's good to see other student film makers taking photos. So many of the aspiring cinematographers I study with never pick up a 35mm SLR and just experiment. For me this is the cheapest and quikest way to play around with lighting, framing and composition and a fantastic way to learn. As for the contrast, I wouldn't say "stop adding" it. I always take my photos into photoshop an just play around with them. Add contrast take it out, ad grain take it out, play with colour balance, saturation everything. Get your photos to look as best as they can in your own mind. I find that this is also a great way to learn and alot cheaper then telecne sessions. And when you go to telecine you will be a lot more capable of conversing with the colourist and getting the look you and your director want. Nice photos. keep at it.
