For example, say a lens for a 2/3 chip SD camera would not be suitible for a 2/3 chip HD camera. I'm wondering what is meant by "resolution". Is it a subjective term for the quality of the glass? The two most common criteria are resolution and contrast. Most manufacturers publish the MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) of their lenses, which reflects the spatial resolution performance, i.e. the ability of the lens to resolve detail, which is a result of both the contrast and sharpness of the kens in question.
